A little More Chemistry :-)

A chemical element is a single element (He, N, O, etc.)

1)    A chemical compound is two or more elements together (NaCl)

2)    Small particle that makes up most types of matter on earth? ATOMS

3)    Do compounds have the same chemical properties as the elements that compose them?

No, their physical and chemical properties can be different from the constituent elements.

Example :
Sodium is a silvery, soft, light metal that combusts if it becomes wet.
Chlorine is a greenish-yellow gas that is lethal when inhaled.
The compound they form is sodium chloride, or table salt, which is stable and non-toxic.
4)    Elements in the same group, UP and Down on the periodic table will have similar properties

5)    Na + Cl à NaCl    (Na + Cl) = Reactants         (NaCl)= Product

6)    The products are usually completely different that the reactants.  For Example, Hydrogen is explosive and Oxygen is flammable, but together they put out fires.

7)    The law of conservation of mass dictates the quantity of each element does not change in a chemical reaction. Thus, each side of the chemical equation must represent the same quantity of any particular element.  CH4 + 2 O2 CO2 + 2 H2O

8)    Metals are shiny, can be bent and conduct electricity

9)    In a chemical change, the substances are altered chemically and display different physical and chemical properties after the change. When a chemical change occurs new substance(s) are formed through a reorganization of the atoms. A chemical change is irreversible.

10) In a chemical reaction, the substances you begin with are called reactantsA compound present at the beginning of a chemical reaction.. The new substances that are formed are called products A compound that is formed as a result of a chemical reaction..

11)   A base is Bitter to taste but a acid is sour
